Building the Foundations of a Safer Digital Start: myFirst’s Vision for the KidsTech Ecosystem

Vertex Holdings04 Mar 2026

For many families today, a child’s first digital interaction happens earlier than ever before. Whether it’s messaging grandparents, sharing photos, or learning to navigate a connected device, technology is becoming part of childhood at an accelerating pace. Yet much of today’s digital infrastructure was designed for adults, not for children taking their first steps online.

This structural mismatch is creating both opportunity and urgency. Parents want to introduce their children to technology in ways that are safe, purposeful, and age-appropriate. At the same time, children increasingly expect devices and digital experiences that feel empowering rather than restrictive.

Singapore-based KidsTech company myFirst is positioning itself at the intersection of these needs.

The company recently announced that it has raised over US$8 million in its Series A funding round, led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India. The capital will support the continued development of myFirst’s integrated ecosystem, spanning connected devices, secure communication tools, and a closed, family-first social platform, as it expands globally.

A Structural Shift in How Families Introduce Technology

For years, children’s digital entry points have largely consisted of hand-me-down smartphones or tablets originally designed for adult users. Parental control features were often retrofitted rather than purpose-built. As a result, many families have faced a difficult choice: restrict access entirely or allow children onto platforms not tailored to their age and developmental needs.

The emergence of KidsTech reflects a broader shift in consumer behavior. Parents are no longer simply seeking devices with fewer features; they are seeking ecosystems intentionally designed around safety, accessibility, and child-appropriate functionality.

As Jessica Koh, Senior Executive Director at Vertex Ventures SEA & India, observed:

“We see a structural shift in how families introduce children to technology, driving demand for purpose-built products rather than adaptations of adult platforms. The global KidsTech opportunity remains underpenetrated, and with its integrated ecosystem and global reach, myFirst is well positioned to define the category at scale.”

This shift signals that KidsTech is not merely a niche hardware category. It represents an evolving infrastructure layer for children’s first digital identities.

Purpose-Built Technology for the Next Generation

Founded with the goal of creating safer, more joyful technology experiences for children, myFirst has developed a growing portfolio of devices and services designed specifically for young users.

At the center of its ecosystem is the myFirst Fone watchphone, which is a wearable device that allows children to call, message, and share moments with approved contacts. Equipped with GPS tracking, safety zones, and an SOS feature, the device provides children with independence while offering parents reassurance. Crucially, it avoids exposing children to open internet environments or mainstream social platforms.

Complementing its hardware is myFirst Circle, a secure, encrypted, ad-free social app designed exclusively for children and their trusted networks. Unlike traditional social platforms, myFirst Circle operates as a closed ecosystem, limiting access to approved family and friends, and eliminating exposure to strangers and inappropriate content.

Together, these products reflect a deliberate design philosophy: children should be able to communicate, create, and connect, but within environments built specifically for them.

Beyond watchphones, myFirst’s ecosystem includes cameras, headphones, drawing tablets, and other creative tools that encourage self-expression while remaining integrated within a secure digital framework.

Expanding a Global KidsTech Footprint

Trusted by more than one million families across 60 countries, myFirst has already demonstrated meaningful market traction. The Series A funding will accelerate its global expansion strategy, including deeper retail and telco partnerships in North Asia, the Middle East, the United States, and Europe. Current partnerships include global retailers such as Walmart and Best Buy.

This international growth reflects both consumer demand and an evolving category landscape. As digital-native generations grow up, families increasingly seek products that balance empowerment with safety, and are willing to invest in platforms that prioritize long-term digital wellbeing.

Unlike many single-device offerings, myFirst’s strategy centers on ecosystem development. By integrating devices with secure communication services and a proprietary social platform, the company aims to create continuity across a child’s early digital journey.

Defining the Infrastructure of First Digital Identities

At its core, myFirst is not simply producing hardware. It is building what could become foundational infrastructure for children’s first digital identities.

In today’s digital economy, identity formation often begins online. For adults, that identity is shaped by social media profiles, messaging platforms, and connected devices. For children, however, these environments may not yet be developmentally appropriate.

By creating a controlled, family-oriented ecosystem, myFirst offers an alternative pathway, one that allows children to participate in digital life within structured boundaries.

This approach aligns with broader global conversations around online safety, age-appropriate design, and data protection. Regulators and policymakers worldwide are increasingly scrutinizing how platforms engage with younger users. Companies that proactively design for safety and privacy may therefore find themselves aligned with future regulatory expectations.

Looking Ahead

The KidsTech sector remains relatively underpenetrated, particularly compared to broader consumer electronics and social media markets. Yet demographic trends and digital adoption patterns suggest sustained growth potential.

As families navigate the balance between connectivity and caution, platforms that can offer integrated, purpose-built ecosystems may become central to early digital experiences.

With the support of its latest funding round, myFirst plans to deepen its technology stack, strengthen global partnerships, and further enhance myFirst Circle’s capabilities, reinforcing its mission to build safer, more intentional digital pathways for children.

In an era where digital fluency begins early, the question is no longer whether children will engage with technology. The more pressing question is what kind of technology they will engage with and who will define that experience.

myFirst is betting that the answer lies in infrastructure designed specifically for them.
